Joba Given the Minimum

Friday, March 7, 2008

The Yankees recently renewed Joba Chamberlain for the league minimum, which is $390,000.  Joba was a cult hero last a year and played a major role in helping the Yankees make it to the playoffs.  Shouldn’t he deserve more?  Well, it is the Yankees right to give Joba whatever they want.  Baseball is still a business and why should they pay him more when the Yankees don’t have to.  He did only pitch around 25 innings last year.

Joba’s words:

“I don’t play the game to get paid. I play the game to enjoy it and love it. The paycheck’s a bonus. What do I have to complain about?”

Gotta love him, but who doesn’t play the game for the big pay check?  I would really like to believe him and I hope he keeps this cliche routine up.  Take the mound as a starter(the Yankees plan all along) and maybe Joba will earn more.
