It is amazing that Derek Jeter is entering his 14th season in pinstripes. It seemed like yesterday, he was the fresh-faced kid that won ROY in 1996 and guided the Yanks to their 1st World Series title since the late 1970’s. Now the Yanks desperately need the Captain’s help to unseat the Red Sox in their quest for another title.
Jeter is the type of player that every manager would like to have on his team. He runs out every ball and is the smartest player on the field at all times. The problem is that Jeter will be 34 years of age during the 2008 season and still playing shortstop. Shortstop is a position which requires much mobility and physical skill. Jeter has won 3 gold gloves during his career, but how many will he earn during the rest of his career. The good news is that Jeter has won all three Gold Gloves after the age of 29.
Many baseball people have refuted the fact that Jeter is a great defensive player. But as previously stated , Jeter clearly is not immensely hurting his team. He might have to move to another position in a couple years or so, but let’s all worry about that in the future. He is our Captain and if he thinks he can still play ss, then so should we.
Jeter is expected to be an important part of the team offensively. He has played in 154+ game in each of the last four seasons. His offensive output should be around the same this year: .300 10 70 .380 OBP. He needs to to do what he does best, which is to make contact, get on base, and move runners over. Not much else needs to be said about Derek Jeter, what you see is what you are gonna get day in and day out.

Today I purchased a share of a European football club (or soccer club) along with my fellow co-worker. We are really excited about owning a European football club. This responsibility includes voting on numerous decisions such as players, coaches, and team apparel. Each owner (about 30,000 of them) gets one vote on every issue. I can renew my ownership in another year.
This is a great opportunity for us, since we work in the sporting industry. This experience will help us make decisions at the present time and in the future. I will be able to understand what is required in order for an organization to be successful (along with my current work experience).
If anybody knows the rules of soccer, feel free give me a crash course at any time.

We all have heard that a hockey game being played at Yankee Stadium have been in the works for some time now. It has been recently reported that the last game at Yankee Stadium could be a hockey game. The New York Rangers are likely to play a regular season game at Yankee Stadium at some point during the 2008-2009 NHL season. Should a hockey game close out “The House That Ruth Built?”
I am definitely an ‘old school’ type of person and enjoy all sports. But, I really don’t think I would have a problem with the Rangers playing the last official sporting event at Yankee Stadium. As a huge Rangers fan, if there is a game, it has to be the New York Rangers taking the ice at Yankee Stadium.
The way I see it, is that there will be a last baseball game played at Yankee Stadium regardless of the situation. This game will be historic and this game will sell out if not already sold out and all fans will soak it in, including yours truly. I understand the emotions of all the Yankee fans but outdoor hockey is pretty exciting in itself, especially at Yankee Stadium. The recent Winter Classic was a successful event at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, NY. Hockey is trying to make a comeback since the 2004-2005 lockout season (of course I worked at The Meadowlands that season and didn’t see a lick of hockey) and to play on the biggest stage in all of sports can only help the NHL. I just hope they don’t screw it up and pay their respects to Yankee Stadium.
I am actually watching the Rangers play Buffalo at the current moment (freaky, right?) on Versus. You see how bad it is, most hockey games can only be seen on Versus. You know what else is on Versus…bull-riding and fishing. That is just a crying shame.
